A 70-year old man has killed himself by hanging after allegedly developing misunderstandings with his children over the sale of a piece of land.
The deceased has been identified as Ouma Joseph a resident of Nangwe North village, Nangwe parish, Dabani sub-county in Busia district. The incident happened on Wednesday morning.
Nabwire Jane, a wife to the deceased says that her husband wanted to sell a piece of land to collect money that could enable him pay for his treatment after being ill for a long period. However, his repeated calls to the children according to the wife fell on deaf ears as none of them responded which prompted him to hang himself on a nearby tree.
Meanwhile, Ngolobe Francis the elder son to the deceased confirmed that their father has for long been ill and they have tried to give him treatment but in vain. He suspects that the late might have decided to end his life after getting frustrated by the illness.
Ngolobe denied allegations that their father hanged himself after they halted him from selling his land.
The Nangwe North village LC1 Chairperson Masiga Robert told Jogoo Fm that the deceased claimed his life due to depression. He however condemned the act and appealed to his residents to always seek guidance from elders and relevant people instead of committing suicide because death is irreversible.
